BAINBRIDGE – Eleanor E. Kappauf, 87, of Bainbridge, passed away Friday afternoon, January 14, 2011, in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Corona in June of 1923, Eleanor was the daughter of Frederick and Emma Robe Lawrence. After her graduation from the Mepham High School in Long Island, she attended business school. Eleanor and her husband of 61 years, Robert Kappauf, were married in Seaford, L.I. on June 19, 1948. In 1970, the Kappaufs moved upstate and Eleanor worked beside husband Bob in the ownership and operation of the Brackett Lake Campgrounds. She enjoyed fishing, working in her garden and growing flowers. As a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Christy Rock Post #2782, Eleanor again worked with husband Bob in the operation of the group’s Bingo games. Bob predeceased Eleanor on August 22, 2009.
Eleanor is survived by her children: Diane Labour and husband David of Nescopeck, Pa. and Robert Kappauf, Jr., of Bainbridge; her brother, Frederick Lawrence of Massapequa; her grandchildren and their spouses: Michele and Tom Gilligan, Jamin and Shannon Labour, and Robert Kappauf III and finacee Kimberly Murphy; and her great grandchildren: Erin and Emalee Gilligan, Alyssa Labour, and William Kappauf as well as several nieces and nephews.
At Eleanor’s request, there will be no formal services and interment will be at the convenience of her family.
