Louise Shaver


NORWICH – Louise B. Shaver, 82, of Norwich, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Deposit on April 3, 1924, Louise was the daughter of Laurence and Louella (Crumb) Boyd. She graduated from the Franklin High School, then worked for over 40 years for the Norwich Shoe Company, until they closed their doors. On Aug. 21, 1953, in Sidney, Louise married George Shaver. Throughout their married life they lived in numerous areas of Chenango County, where Louise enjoyed her gardens, especially the vegetable ones, and her plants. She was a prolific and talented seamstress who loved to sew, knit, and crochet. One of her pleasures was to take bus trips to Massachusetts and Connecticut to visit the casinos, and she liked both bingo and cards.
Louise is survived by her children: Beverly Oles and husband Richard of Norwich, Raymond “Larry” Smith and wife Cathy of Oxford, Lana Whaley and Lori Bentley, both of Florida; her sisters: Edith Phelps of East Guilford, Phyllis Moss of Bainbridge, Laura Kishbaugh of Mt. Upton, Ernestine “Tini” Kilpatrick of Delhi, and Alice Kishbaugh of Arizona; and by her brothers: Donald Boyd of Sidney Center and William Boyd of South Carolina. She is also survived by her first husband, Gordon Smith of Oxford; her grandchildren, Scott Simpson of Sherburne and Kathleen Valdez of Norwich; and by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her second husband, George Shaver, on Dec. 30, 1992; her daughter, Carol Simpson; and her brother, Theron Boyd.
Memorial services for Louise will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday from the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church with its pastor, Rev. Neil Bendixen, officiating. Interment will be at the family’s convenience in Union Cemetery of McDonough. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
