Paul Potter Jr.


SHERBURNE – Paul R. Potter Jr., 52, of Sherburne, passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 17, 2011, at the Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.
Paul was born in DeRuyter in November 1958 and was the son of Paul and Rosie (Hollenbeck) Potter Sr. He grew up in the Norwich area and was a graduate of the Norwich High School. Following his education he entered the United States Army where he served his country until his honorable discharge. Over the years Paul and his family have made their home in the Smyrna and Earlville areas and have lived in Sherburne for the past 2-3 years. For the past 11 years, Paul has been employed by the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville where he worked in the housekeeping dept. He had previously worked for the Hamilton Hospital and Law’s Metal Machine Shop in Sherburne-4-Corners.
Paul was an avid Demolition Derby fan and had driven in many of the areas events. He also enjoyed NASCAR and was a fan of Casey Kane. When it came to football it was the 49ers and the Yankees was his baseball team. He also enjoyed wrestling over the years.
On Aug. 31, 1985 in Norwich, he married Terri Collins, who survives. Besides his wife Terri of Sherburne, Paul is survived by his children Bobbi Jo Potter, Paul Potter III, Chad Potter and Joshua Potter all of Sherburne, his grandmother Rosie Camp of Gilbertsville, his sisters Rose Hubbard of North Carolina, Vickie (Roger) Dionne of Whitinsville, Mass., Grace Gray and companion Bob Foster of Ithaca and Theresa Boland of Weedsport, his brothers Dwight Potter of Pennsylvania, John Richards Jr. of Norwich and his half brother Raymond Potter of Florida. Also surviving are his mother-in-law and father-in-law Charles and Patricia Collins of Smyrna along with aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his family, Paul always considered his co-workers at the Crouse Community Center his “second family and home.”
Paul was predeceased by his parents Paul and Rosie, and his sister, Karen Pope.
Funeral services for Paul will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Bernard Langille of Norwich will officiate. Interment with full military rites will be held at a later date from the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
