HOLMESVILLE – Glenn Robert Powers, better known as John to all his family and friends, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 20, 2011 at his home in Holmesville with his children by his side.
John was born on March 6, 1938 in White Store, the son of Horatio and Audrey Law Powers. John grew up in the White Store and Holmesville area and attended the South New Berlin school district. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed in various jobs such as, OW railroad, school bus driver, Simmonds Precision Company, owner of Power Escavatating and was a retiree of Keith Clark Company. John loved heading to New Berlin to the Red Apple where he enjoyed coffee with his many friends.
John is survived by his son John Glenn Powers, South New Berlin and Penny Jones, Norwich; six grandchildren, John Samatha, Hunter, Christian and Caira Powers and Wade Kornegay; brothers James (Blanch) Unadilla, Edward (Erna), Rockdale; sisters Barbara (Richard) VanderBunt, Greene and Donna (Dan) Anderson, South New Berlin; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former spouses Beverly Stevens Mathews, the mother of his children, and Anna Powers.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by sister Shirley Baker and brothers Raymond and Donald.
At John’s request there will be no calling hours and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
