Donald Matteson


ORWICH – Donald Matteson, 82, of Norwich and Brooksville, Fla., passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at his home in Brooksville.
Don was born Aug.. 10, 1927 in New Berlin the son of John and Myrtle Matteson. He was predeceased by his wife Jeanne D. Matteson, his brothers Kenneth Matteson and John Matteson, New Berlin and Robert Matteson, Norwich.
Don was the father of Debra Silverman and her husband Neal of Rotterdam, and Cynthia Matteson of Westtown. He is grandfather to five grandchildren, Heather Van Auken, Nathan Barber, Lisa Wetterhahn, Travis Silverman, Marissa Silverman and four great grandchildren.
Don served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Omaha, Neb. Following his two years of service he married and built his career in the printing profession at Brodock Press, Utica and Mid-York Press in Sherburne. He was a member and Trustee of the First Baptist Church of Norwich. Don was also interested in archeology and supported the Chenango County Historical Society Museum. He also enjoyed volunteering his time at the Northeast Classic car Museum. Don was a private pilot for nearly 40 years and enjoyed flying remote control aircraft. He also enjoyed playing golf, the guitar and spending time with his family.
A memorial service for Don will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. David Spiegel, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery of New Berlin.
There will be no calling hours.
