NORWICH – Laura M. Wilcox Morrell, 82, of DeRuyter and formerly of Norwich and Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at the Cortland Regional Hospital.
Laura was born in Merrillsville on July 21, 1928 the daughter of Lynn and Minerva (Dunham) Marks. She grew up in Gerogetown and graduated from the Geogetown Central High School with the class of 1946. She was a supervisor for the Norwich Shoe Co. and had owned and operated The Red Lantern. On Nov. 16, 1946, she married Paul Wilcox and they made their home in Norwich. Paul passed away on Feb. 7, 1984. On Sept. 15, 1962 she married William Morrell and they also made their home in Norwich as well as Zephyrhills, Fla.. Bill passed awy in August of 2006.
Laura worked as a waitress in Zephyrhills at the Homelike Resturant where she retired. When her daughter and son-in-law opened a business in Florida, Laura wanted to be a part of it by volunteering her time.
Laura is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Robin (Wilcox) McCarthy and husband Ron of Norwich, her step-daughter Cynthia Morrell Fox of East Pharsalia, her grandchildren, Marcia Tarver, Danielle Schmitz, Eric McCarthy and Kevin McCarthy. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Victoria, Olivia, Grant, Kimberly Makenna and Trent, her brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Eleanor Marks along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Paul and Bill, Laura was also predeceased by her son Michael Morrell and by her sisters Ilda Ladd and Linda Fickling.
At Laura’s request there will be no calling hours and services will be at the convenience of the family. Laura’s daughter would like everyone to take a moment and reflect back on a special memory you have of her.
