GREENE – James E. Maginsky, 82, of Greene, passed away on Feb. 10, 2011 at NYS Veterans’ Home, Oxford.
He is predeceased by his parents, William and Cecilia; three brothers, William, Thomas and infant Edward; and several aunts and uncles. Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Doris; children, Christopher Maginsky and Patricia Quinlivan; step children, John and Susie Conklin, Diane and Larry Kroon; former wife and mother of his children, Sylvia Williams; grandchildren, Michael Lewis and Sean Quinlivan; step grandchildren, Laura, Larry J., Marijke Kroon, and Cate Conklin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Ruth Maginsky, Jack and Laurel Maginsky; sister-in-law, Cora Maginsky; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa. on Sept. 20, 1928. He was raised in Ashley, Pa. and later lived in Beachlake, Pa. He entered the U.S. Army after high school and served in Japan from 1946 to 1948 in the post war occupation. He was recalled the serve in the Korean War. Jim received his teaching degree from Mansfield University and retired from teaching at Greene Central School with over thirty years of service. Jim was a fun loving, energetic person who enjoyed introducing children to sports. He excelled at sports and coached tennis for over twenty years. He liked playing cards and had many competitive games with his family and friends. He was a kind and considerate person who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Mass will be announced in the spring by Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 401 Hayes Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760 or to NYS Veterans Home Volunteer Guild, 4207 St. Hwy 220 Oxford, NY 13830.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff for their excellent, compassionate care that they gave Jim.
