NORWICH – Marjorie Retteen Scott, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 after a brief illness at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Prattsville, Marjorie was the daughter of William H. and Estella G. (Mattice) Atkinson. She lived almost all of her life in Norwich and attended the local schools. She worked for twenty-nine years for GLA and its successors.
In her leisure time, Marjorie enjoyed auctions. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoying many forms of needlework. She also liked refinishing.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Patricia F. Scott, of Norwich and a sister, Caroline Brewster, of Massachusetts. She is also survived by a niece, Beverly Ann Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo. and two nephews, Donald W. Auwater, of Prescott, Ariz. and Shawn Brewster of Danby, Vermont. Several grandnieces and grandnephews also survive. She was predeceased her brother, Carlton Atkinson and sisters, Virginia Atkinson, Freida Nodecker, Evelyn Auwater and Arra Wanna Stone.
Funeral services for Marjorie will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24 at the Wilson Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the spring in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Marjorie may be made to the Norwich Fire Department or to the Norwich Emergency Squad.
