Rosemary Casamento


NORWICH – Rosemary M. Casamento, 74, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 03, 2011 at her home.
Born in Norwich on May 24, 1936, Rosemary was the daughter of Frank and Grace (Biviano) Portelli. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1954 and then received her registered nursing degree from the Wilson Hospital School of Nursing. After working for a short time at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in El Paso, Texas, she returned to Norwich and joined the staff at Chenango Memorial Hospital where she retired in 1995 after thirty years of service.
Rosemary was a nurse chaperone for several high school band trips during the late 1970s and was a swimming official locally for over twenty years. She also enjoyed painting during her spare time.  She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church.
On June 21, 1958, in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Rosemary married Phillip Casamento, who survives. She is also survived by her sons and their wives, Frank and Lori Casamento of Syracuse, Tim and Kleo Casamento of West Babylon, NY and Mike Casamento of Endicott; three grandchildren, Phillip, Caleb and Kyle Casamento and a sister, Jeanne Thomas and her husband, Ken, of The Villages, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Casamento.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rosemary will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 7 at St. Bartholomew’s Church. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 3:45 p.m. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Rosemary may be made to the Norwich Emergency Squad or to the charity of your choice.
