GREENE – Jane (Flanagan) Caracciolo, 84, of Greene, passed away peacefully with her daughter Ann and granddaughter Natalie at her side, on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
She was born Jan. 18, 1927 in Greene, the daughter of the late Franklin “Tarb” and Irene “Till” (Comfort) Flanagan also from Greene.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bucky Caracciolo, is survived by her loving daughter Ann Fairchild of Greene, Linda and (Tom) Demkovich of Endicott, Mike (Beth) Caracciolo of Charlotte, N.C., Pat (Rod) Smith of Whitsett, N.C., and Susan Pondolfino-Caracciolo of Bainbridge. Grandchildren Natalie Sherwood and fiancé Michael McMahon of Greene, Courtney (Joe) Stirpe of Vestal, Carrie (Dan) Tiberi of Endwell, Nicole (Ryan) Schweikher of Norcross, GA, Tammy (Bill) Ruettgers of Charlotte, N.C., Jason (Erin) Smith of Raleigh, NC, Melinda (Todd) Hicks of Charlotte, N.C., and Trae Smith of Durham, NC, as well as several great grandchildren. Jane’s fun-loving spirit will be greatly missed by all her friends, and especially her dear friends Jim and Debbie Rhodes.
She graduated from Greene High School in 1945, and worked for the local pharmacy Kimber Drug Store, now known as Rite Aid, from which she retired after 25 years. Jane was a life-long member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Greene. She had many enjoyments in life which included being an avid Yankees fan, an accomplished dancer with her late husband Bucky, traveling to Florida to enjoy the beach and soak up the sun, playing Quick Draw and a game of solitaire from time to time. Most of all she enjoyed special moments with granddaughter Natalie, spending time with her grandchildren and following their success in both high school and college sports.
Calling hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at the Kennedy Funeral Home, 21 Chenango St. in Greene, with funeral services immediately following. Rev. Curtis Whitman of the First Congregational United Church of Christ will be officiating. Committal service at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery will be announced in the spring.
