SAN DIEGO – Michael A. Mesko, 63, formerly of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego, Calif. According to his wishes, he was cremated and burial will be at a later date.
The son of Michael and Gladys Mesko, Michael was born Aug. 16, 1947, in Norwich. He graduated from Norwich Senior High School in 1966. After high school, he enlisted and served four years in the U.S. Navy. He married Susan Hawkins in 1970 and settled in San Diego after leaving the military. He worked for many years in the construction industry and was especially skilled in carpentry.
Michael was an avid sports fan and enjoyed collecting baseball cards. He also began ‘friending’ his family and former classmates on Facebook before his death.
He is survived by his son, Michael and his spouse, Anna, and grandchild, Brady, San Diego and daughter, Melissa, San Diego. He is also survived by his sister, Bernetta Whaley, Smyrna; Paricia Ofslager, Geneseo, Ill., and Kathy Broten, Hartwick, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his father in 1977, mother in 1997 and brother, Robert, in October 2010.
