NORWICH – Douglas G. “Dougy” Wright, 59, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Thurs. morning, March 24, 2011, at his home.
Born in Milford in March of 1952, Doug was the son of Bernard and Hilda Joslyn Wright. He grew up in the Milford and Goodyear Lake area where he graduated from the Milford High School, then attended SUNY Fulton-Montgomery, graduating with an Associates Degree in the liberal arts. On Dec. 3, 1983, in Milford, Doug married Robin Rivenburgh. He was dedicated to his family first, and second, to his job.
He began his lengthy career with Sheffield and its successors when the firm was in its infancy, working from their Oneonta office. When that office closed in the mid-1970s, Doug transferred to the Norwich branch. For most of his tenure with Sheffield et al, Doug was a department head in the hydrolyzed protein area, but in the past ten days had been promoted to manager of the Lactose Compound Dept. A truly dedicated and well respected employee who never took a sick day, Doug represented the best in work ethics and will be deeply missed.
He was a jolly individual who liked to laugh, and was very involved in sports. A fan of the New York Mets and Giants and of both Earnhardts of NASCAR fame, Doug enjoyed golf, had coached soccer and little league. He had umpired softball games and refereed basketball and soccer. He enjoyed country music, and loved animals, especially his pets.
Doug is survived by his wife, Robin, of Norwich; by his children and their spouses: Mark and Amy Hill of New Berlin, Todd Hill and partner Josh King of Sherburne, Brian Wright and fiancee Lisa Favorito-Hartman, Chad Wright and fiancee Amanda Nichols, and Erica Wright, all of Norwich. Also surviving are Doug’s grandchildren: Braden Wright, Owen Hill, Phalen Hill, Logan Wright, Elijah Hartman, and Grace Wright; and his sister, Cherie Joslyn of Morris. He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie.
Funeral services for Doug will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Mon. from 11 a.m. until the service at 1.
Please consider memorial contributions to the Norwich Emergency Squad, 31 East Main Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
