NORWICH – David R. Walker, 87, of Canasawacta Street, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at his home following an extended illness.
Born March 4, 1924 in Brookfield, David was the son of Roy and Elizabeth (Hoyt) Walker. He graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 1942 and then attended Alfred University and trade school before joining Local 112 in Binghamton as a plumber. He retired in 1987. He served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army during World War II participating in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp in Germany.
David loved hunting and fishing during his leisure time and was a member of the VFW and the 42nd Rainbow.
David is survived by his wife, Muriel (Dunham) Walker, of Norwich; his son, David Walker Jr. and his wife, Susan, of New Mexico; his daughters, Barbara Walker-Kelly and her husband, Doug, of Norwich and Laurie Walker of Delhi; four grandchildren, Jared Weeks, Diedre Davis and Ian and Jesse Sperber; two step-grandchildren, Colin Pollard and Terri Davis and two great grandchildren, Henry and Amelia Weeks. David was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn (McNitt) Walker, a son, Scott Jay Walker and a brother, Joseph Walker.
Funeral arrangements for David will be scheduled later in 2011. Contributions may be made in his memory to the SPCA or to Hospice of Chenango County.
