NORWICH – Carolyn H. Zaharis, 82, of Norwich, passed away Sat. afternoon, April 23, 2011, in the Norwich Rehab and Nursing Center.
Carolyn was born in Norwich in December of 1928, the daughter of James and Grace (Transue) Haynes Sr. She was a graduate of the Binghamton North High School and also has attended Morrisville College. Carolyn had worked for a period of 27 years for GLA and its successors as a mechanical inspector from which she retired. She was a life member of the American Legion in Sidney, a member of the Norwich YMCA as well as the lap swimmers of the YMCA. Carolyn also was an avid reader and was always ready to read a good book.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Margaret and George Riley of Norwich, her sister Mary Owens of Butler, Pa., her brother and sister-in-law James Haynes Jr. and his wife Shirley of Utica, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was predeceased by her husband James Zaharis who passed away in 1958 and her sisters Grace Hendricks, Ellen Blenis and Alice Howard.
There will be no formal services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.
