Kristina Collier

NORWICH – Kristina A. “Krissie” Collier, 19, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.
Born June 23, 1991 in Norwich, Krissie was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Brown) Collier. She graduated from Norwich High School with the Class of 2009 and had just finished her sophomore year at SUNY Brockport where she was studying to be an Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. While in high school, Krissie was a member of the varsity tennis team since 7th grade and during her senior year was voted the team’s co-most valuable player and named to the Section IV All Metro team following an undefeated season. She also was a member of the basketball team. She spent many springs and summers playing AAU basketball with the Chenango Vipers. Additionally, Krissie was voted as “Class Leader” for senior favorites. Her senior year she was most proud of being an editor of the school’s yearbook and rejuvenating school spirit by leading the charge for a student fan bus to away athletic events.
Krissie will be remembered as a very independent individual, “doing her own thing,” not at all politically motivated and always thinking of others before herself. She was never afraid to speak her mind or stand alone against the crowd. Krissie always put the interests of her friends and family ahead of her own. She never was afraid to stand up for those she loved and always made sure her point of view was heard. If she was not out living her life to the fullest, she could be found watching a movie or a past television episode from her most treasured movie collection or designing pages for her latest scrapbook. Krissie will always be remembered for living her life through one motto: “I’d rather do nothing and be happy, than do something I don’t love.”
Krissie is survived by her parents, Tom and Mary Collier; a sister, Ali Collier and a brother, Brian Collier; her maternal grandmother, Rosemary Brown and her paternal grandfather, Donald Collier, all of Norwich. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many, many dearly beloved friends. Krissie was predeceased by Gordon Brown, her maternal grandfather and June Collier, her paternal grandmother.
A funeral service for Krissie will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Paul’s Church. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Krissie may be made to the Norwich Tennis Boosters, c/o Norwich High School, Midland Drive, Norwich, NY 13815.
The arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the funeral home website at: www.wilsonfh.com.
