NORWICH – Virginia D. “Ginny” Bliss, 83, of Norwich, passed away Thursday evening, June 16, 2011, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
The only daughter of Mortimer and Erma Grady Decker, Ginny was born in March of 1928 in Laurens. When Ginny was an infant, her mother passed away and she was raised by her dad and the only mother she knew, her step-mother, Eleanor Decker. Ginny grew up in Wells Bridge and was a graduate of the Gilbertsville High School. Following her marriage, she and her husband lived in Otego until 1954 when they moved to Sherburne. In 1961 Ginny relocated to Norwich and married Ernest Bliss, and Ginny went to work as a waitress in the Blue Bird Restaurant. She subsequently worked for Acme Markets, Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals in the packaging dept., and was employed last by Victory Markets. Ginny enjoyed baking and making cakes for all occasions, and was an avid camper.
Ginny is survived by her children and their spouses: Douglas Trask of Norwich, Charles and Mary Trask of Sherburne, Howard and Debbie Trask of Oneonta, and Sandra and Robert Myers of Norwich, Fran and Richard Baran of Lancaster, Ed and Pam Bliss of Crawford, Colo., and Steve and Joyce Bliss of Norwich. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Nicholas and Scott Myers, Shane Trask, Stacey Golden, John, Pete, and Tom Trask, Crystal Trask, Brian and Bill Trask, Joe and Jamie Law, Chrissy Farber, Tim and Dan Baran, Dugan and Tyler Bliss, Matthew and David Bliss, Ray and Michael Bliss; many great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Ginny was predeceased by her son and daughter, Charles Bliss and Cheryl Law; her grandson, Mark Trask, and her brothers, Gerald and Herbert Decker.
Funeral services for Ginny will be held at 7 p.m. Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Hale, Pastor of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Laurens Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home tonight from 5 to 7.
