Hattie Morgan

NORWICH – Hattie Mae Morgan, 87 years of age, passed away on Tuesday July 5, 2011 as the graceful lady she was. Hattie passed with a gentle smile, in the home of the “special angel in her life,” her daughter, Jenine and son-in-law Jerry Ryan.
She was born on March 12, 1924 to Levi Wesley and Hattie Missoura Mulwane Williams in Bennettsville. She married Morse Arthur “Moe” Morgan on March 14, 1942. He passed on Oct. 12, 1993.
Throughout her life she lived in the Binghamton area, McDonough, Oxford and Norwich. Before moving in with her daughter, she lived at Peacock Manor in Norwich for 17 years. Hattie leaves many dear friends at Peacock Manor that she made throughout her years residing there.
Hattie devoted her life to her family and others as a teacher for the Chenango County Head Start in both Norwich and Oxford for 25 years, retiring in 1985. The children she taught and her co-workers were still spoken about frequently, with love, in her remaining years.
Above all she was non-wavering in her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness for 70 years. Her fellow members were a part of her family and were always there for her when she needed their strength and support. Hattie loved her fellow members deeply.
Hattie was the last surviving sibling of a family of 21. She always stated she did not have a family tree, she had a forest. She lost her son Philip Lee “Phil” Morgan on Dec. 2, 1995 and her daughter Melissa Mae “Lissa” Morgan on Feb. 27, 2007, a pain she never recovered from.
Hattie is survived by her sons, Gary and Barb Morgan of Guilford, Eric “Rick” Morgan, Melbourne, Fla., Dennis Morgan, Winder, Ga., Martin “Marty” Morgan, Guilford and James and Sally Morgan, Duluth, Ga. Also surviving are her daughters Mellanie Morgan, Mt. Upton, Melinda Pell, Elijay, Ga., Jenine Caldwell Ryan and Jerry Ryan, Mt. Upton, Lorrie Ann Anderson, Waverly and Heather and Wes Dixson, South New Berlin. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to Catskill Hospice for the wonderful and gentle support they gave to Hattie and her family. The family asks that any contributions be sent to the Catskill Area Hospice in her memory.
Hattie Morgan’s calling hours will be held at 10 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall on Route 12 in Norwich on Tuesday. The service will be at 11 a.m.. and the burial will be held at l p.m. at Sylvan Law Cemetery in Greene.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
