NEW BERLIN – Wayland (Trey) W. Williams III, 66, of Madison and formerly of Hamilton and New Berlin, entered into rest Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Bassett Hospital Cooperstown.
Trey was born on Oct. 23, 1944 in Buffalo, the son of Elisabeth Ader and Col. W. Whitney Williams II. He graduated from Bellevue High, NE and attended Nebraska State before joining the U.S. Air Force in July of 1967 where he was awarded Airman of the Quarter and accommodation awards several times throughout his career. He was honorably discharged after seven years of service. During his service in the Air Force he was stationed for four years in England where he met and married the mother of his children, Gillian A. Streeter who now resides in MA with her husband Bill Kenyon.
In 1977 he graduated from Colgate University and began his employment at Preferred Mutual Insurance Company where he worked for over 25 years as the Vice President of Property Claims. He retired in 2002. While residing in Hamilton, Trey served as the Village Justice of the Peace for 13 years.
Trey is survived by his wife of 16 years, Gloria J. Anderson Williams and his children; Wayland W. Williams IV of MA, Wendy Baldwin and husband Thomas of Rutland, MA, Brian Williams and his companion Shu Wang of Kittery, ME as well as his step-children; Randy Borst and wife Kim, Amanda Borst and companion Patrick Smith and god-son, Gary Ray.
He is also survived by his grandchildren and loves of his life; Christopher Pounds, Kiran Borst, Austin Ray, Erin, Abigail and Graden Baldwin, Madison Ray and W. Whitney Williams V as well as his brother, Gregory James Williams of St. Louis, his sister and her husband, Jane Williams Durkin and Sean Durkin of Northboro, MA and eight nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Stephen Williams.
Trey was a member of St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church in Hamilton and The American Legion Post 0189 of Norwich. He most enjoyed his time watching Colgate University hockey and living and maintaining the family home at the Locust Hill Cottage in Madison, where he will be laid to rest. He was loved and will be missed by all.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP with Reverend Stephen Reese officiating. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service also at the funeral home. A private burial will follow for the family.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Community Church.
