POMPANO BEACH, FLA. – John S. McCumiskey Jr., 91, of Pompano Beach, Fla. and formerly of Oceanside, NY, passed away on July 8, 2011.
He leaves his beloved wife of 62 years, Elaine McCumiskey, nee Husser, and their wonderful childen, John McCumiskey III of Norwich and his wife Susan; daughters, Sandra Cross of Coral Springs, Fla. and her husband Richard, Patti McCumiskey of Deer Park and her wife Karen. He also leaves 4 nieces, 4 nephews, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandsons.
John was predeceased by his parents, John McCumiskey Sr. and Doris, and a brother Bill.
He served honorably in the US Army 3623 Trucking Company in World War II. He joined the Oceanside American Legion Post 1246, served as commander and has been a member for 66 years. He was a life member of the VFW and Oceanside Volunteer and Exempt Firemen and was a member of the Pompano Beach Elks. He was very fond of his many Member-Guest Tournaments at Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich with his son.
As a long time dock builder on Long Island, then in NYC for the Dept. of Marine and Aviation, John’s wishes were to have his ashes scattered at sea.
There will be a family only scattering of his ashes at sea off of Pompano Beach on July 31.
