Sara “elaine” Chapin


SHERBURNE – Sara “Elaine” (Coleman) Chapin, 71, of Sherburne, and Longs, S.C. passed away peacefully at her home on July 26, 2011, with her loving family by her side, after battling lung cancer.
She was born on Feb. 10, 1940 in Adams, Neb., a daughter of Harry and Verna Coleman. She graduated from high school in Adams.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Charles Chapin; a son, Jeff (MaryJane) Courtney of Norwich; daughters, Diane (William) Laskevicz of Oswego, Kathie (Sam) Nicotra of Fayetteville and Vicki (William) Lougheed of Temple Terrace, Fla.; brothers Wayne (Marie), Claire (Ernestine), Milan (Margie), seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, relatives and numerous friends. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, sister Jean, and brother Frances (Eileen).
Charles and Elaine had dairy farms in Georgetown, owned a Montgomery Ward store in Cazenovia, and she was employed by Alcoa, Control Equipment and SUNY Morrisville prior to her retirement.
Elaine loved shopping, garage sales, cross stitching, bingo, bowling, golf, visiting with her many friends and playing cards.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to all the friends and medical staff who have helped, visited, sent food or flowers during her illness.
Relatives and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. followed by the burial at West Hill Cemetery and a celebration of her life at Mountaintop Golf Course, Sherburne.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Elaine’s memory to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815; Louis Busch Hager Cancer Center, 1 Atwell Rd., Cooperstown, NY 13326; or Chase Memorial Nursing Home, 1 Terrace Heights, New Berlin, NY 13411.
