EARLVILLE – Joyce Ann Chesebro, 69 of Fayette St., passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.
She was born Dec. 1, 1941 in Dover, Del., a daughter of Lloyd and Agnes Hurd Warren and was a graduate of Dover High School. On Aug. 9, 1960, Joyce married Norman L. Chesebro in Harrington, Del. He predeceased her on Oct. 30, 2004. Joyce worked at Victory Markets in Norwich as a bookkeeper for 28 years. She had also been a home health aide who had great compassion for the home bound. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, playing cards and collecting chickens. She especially loved sightseeing and traveling. Joyce never met a stranger. She will be remembered as a true friend with a servant’s heart and caring hands. Her family was her greatest joy and she took delight in the little blessings of daily life.
Joyce was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Earlville where she was a Sunday school teacher, served as a lay minister, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the NYS Women’s 600 Bowling Club and traveled the country competing in tournaments for many years.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Vickie Chesebro of North Pole, Alaska; Norman Chesebro of Earlville; Brian and Mary Chesebro of Cape Coral, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Lillian Warren of Kenton, Del.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Joshua Kendall, Jared, Nicholas, Kerry, David and Evan Chesebro; her loving friend, Richard Hedges of Nelson and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many friends in the Earlville area and from the Valleydale Retirement Community in Zephryhills, Fla. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Ann, in 1961, and a brother, Preston Warren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church, Earlville, followed by interment in the Earlville Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville on Thursday from 7-9 p.m.
