NORTH PITCHER – Irving A. Cornine, 79, of North Pitcher, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at his home.
Mr. Cornine was born in Morris Plains, N.J. on Jan. 29, 1932, a son of the late Lewis and Marion Fiedler Cornine. A resident of this area since 1993, he was a communicant of St. Virgil’s Catholic Church, Morris Plains, N.J. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict where he received the Purple Heart and was a member of the American Legion of South Otselic and Morris Plains. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. From 1972 to 1976, he served as the Mayor of Morris Plains. In the 1970s, he was on the PBA tour. During that time, he also served as a Reserve Police Officer in Morris Plains. He was a member of the American Arbitration Association and an honorary member of the American Bar Association.
He is survived by his children, William (Connie) Cornine of Freehold, N.J., Thomas Cornine of Georgia, Lynn Cornine of Buena Vista, Colo., Paul (Paula) Cornine of Warwick, Kenneth (Jennifer) Cornine of Jackson, N.J., Arthur (Elizabeth Bowman) Cornine of Utica, and George (Jenna Van Der Volgen) Cornine of North Pitcher. He also leaves behind a brother, Raymond (Kay) Cornine of Florida; sisters, Kathryn (Don) Trust of Pennsylvania, and Joan Niles of New Jersey; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a close friend Jason Wrench of Phoenix, NY.
He was predeceased by a son, Irv Cornine in 1994 and brothers, Lewis and David Cornine.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon immediately followed by a prayer service at noon.
