Barbara Mcneil
NORWICH – Barbara (Bartlett) McNeil, 90, of Norwich, passed away on Sept. 25, 2011, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital Residential Health Care Facility.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1921 in Randallsville, to the late George and Maude (Soule) Bartlett. Barbara was predeceased in 1964 by her husband, William Patrick McNeil, whom she married on Feb. 14, 1945.
Barbara was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she devoted her whole life to her family. She also loved playing cards and bingo, and watching various sports on television during her leisure time. She was particularly a fan of the New York Yankees. While residing at Golden Age apartments, Barbara volunteered her time as the resident Treasurer. She spent many years working as the bookkeeper for Ellinwood Auto Parts in Norwich.
Barbara is survived by her son, Emerton “John,” and his wife, Linda, of Hendersonville, N.C.; and daughter Barbara Schermerhorn, and her husband Walter, of Norwich. Her grandchildren Amy (Mark) Franklin, Matthew (Kathy) Schermerhorn, Renee (Terry) Roberts, and William (Riannon) McNeil also survive. Barbara is also survived by ten great-grandchildren: Brandon and Blaine Franklin; Megan, William, and Connor Schermerhorn; Lindsay, Paige, and Parker Roberts; and Thad and Mackenzie McNeil; and her special niece, Marilyn Guy, of Delhi. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Emerton, and sisters, Marjorie, Armitta, Lucy, Alzada, and Abby.
Barbara’s family extends a note of thanks for the excellent care provided to Barbara by Drs. Mulik, Cook, and Brereton, and the nursing staff at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul’s Church with Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the church from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815, or to the Holy Family School, 17 Prospect St., Norwich, NY 13815.
