NORWICH – Lisa Francine Benedict Brown, 44, passed away peacefully on Sept. 25, 2011 at the Wilson Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Born on Nov. 18, 1966, she traded her life long battle of kidney disease, dialysis, and addictions for tranquil eternity with the Angels and the God she worshipped.
Lisa attended the Norwich City Schools and went on to receive her CNA certification. She worked briefly at Valley View Nursing Home in Norwich and as a home health care aide. Due to her deteriorating health, Lisa was no longer able to work. However, she continued her nurturing and compassionate care with her fellow dialysis patients.
Lisa is survived by her mother, Agnes Edatie, and her husband, Stephan; her father, Paul Benedict, and his wife, Donna. Lisa is also survived by her companion Melvin Taylor; her children, Tammy Graves, Amber (Zack) Schraft, Shannon Yaddow, Jennifer, Daniel, Jr. and Noah; grandchildren, David Button III, Carter and Aydrielle Schraft, and Treyden Gehring; loving sisters and brother, Paul and Angela Benedict and Stephanie Edatie, as well as her niece and nephews, Gabrielle and Dominick Bovee and Damian Benedict. Lisa is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Frances DiLello, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, David Weeks, and infant son, Zachary.
Lisa was plagued with kidney stones from the age of seven, along with other rare illnesses for her age, which resulted in many hospital stays. These illnesses and conditions also led to her introduction, dance, and battle with prescription medication abuse. Such abuse is of epidemic proportions in the U.S. affecting people of all walks of life.
Funeral services for Lisa will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
Contributions in Lisa’s memory may be made to Chenango County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, 105 Leilani Way, Norwich, or Chenango County Drug Treatment Court.
