NORTH NORWICH – Clyde A. “Ike” Johnson, 78, of County Rd. 23, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at his home.
He was born July 26, 1933 in New Berlin, a son of the late Claude and Ethel Main Johnson and received his education in local schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict. On July 7, 1956, Claude married Rosalie Curns in Norwich. “Ike” was a heavy equipment operator for the NYS Department of Transportation until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and stock car racing.
Ike was a member of the American Legion Post in Norwich; the North Norwich and Smyrna Volunteer Fire Departments.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Rosalie; his children, Bryan and Rebecca Johnson of Smyrna; Dawn and Mitch Gibbs of North Norwich; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Seeber, Hot Springs, AR; Lucy Johnson, Norwich; Claudine and Henry Parker, Hot Springs, AR; Sally Rothwell, Plymouth; Marjorie Parker, Sherburne; Linda and Bill Excell, Earlville; and Claudia Gesslin, Sherburne; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Catherine Johnson, Richard and Margaret Johnson, all of Sherburne; and Claudia Johnson of Norwich; his beloved grandchildren, Shane Johnson, CA; Matthew Johnson and Samantha Johnson, both of Smyrna; Heather and Gary Miller, Sherburne; Danielle Gibbs, Norwich; and Todd Gibbs, North Norwich; a great-granddaughter Chesnee Miller; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Johnson and a brother, James Johnson.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the North Norwich Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
