SHERBURNE – Betty Jenne, 42, of State Route 12, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
She was born in Sussex, N.J. on Oct. 21, 1968, a daughter of Ray and Rena (Wesselius) VanderWal. She graduated from DeRuyter Central High School; studied for two years at Philadelphia College of Bible and then received her degree in accounting from SUNY Morrisville. On Aug. 19, 1995 in Sherburne, she was united in marriage to Neil S. Jenne. Betty spent her whole career in the grocery business, and fulfilled her life long dream 14 years ago, when she became the owner/operator of the Smyrna Market. She loved cooking and baking for family and friends, and sold her wonderful baked goods at the store. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church, Sherburne.
Surviving are her husband Neil; her children; Allison, LeAnn and Jacob all at home; her parents Ray and Rena vanderWal of DeRuyter; her grandparents Sikke and Baukj vanderWal of Holland; her mother-in-law Ruth (Sutherland) Jenne of Sherburne; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ann vanderWal of Binghamton, Thilda and Larry Gantt of Homer; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Hank and Becky vanderWal of Sherburne, Sam vanderWal of Norwich. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Katherine Philbrick, Texas; Norm Jenne of Sherburne; Tim and Dariene Jenne of Florida; Steven Jenne of Sherburne; Andrew and Nancy Jenne of Texas along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Gordon Jenne and a sister-in-law Karin Jenne.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Faith Baptist Tabernacle Church, State Route 12, Sherburne. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne. Friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the Chenango County Relay for Life. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
