SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Robert C. Taylor, 74, a long time resident of South New Berlin, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, Oct. 26, 2011, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Bob was born in Norwich in January of 1937, the son of Kenneth and Norma Gibson Taylor. A resident of South New Berlin for over 50 years, he had attended school first in Norwich and then in South New Berlin. Soon after his education, Bob entered the United States Army serving his country from Jan. of 1960 until his honorable discharge in December of 1965. On May 25, 1963 in Norwich he married Cleo Knapp who passed away Aug. 1, 1999. Bob returned home from the military and gained employment with what was then known as the Scintilla and worked for 37 years retiring in January of 1999 from Amphenol as a die cast operator.
A laid back sort of guy, Bob was a great fan of the New York Giants and if he was watching the game you’d best stay away. He also enjoyed a good game of Caribbean poker and made several trips to the casino where he usually did quite well. Bob was also an avid NASCAR fan with Kurt Busch being his favorite driver. His favorite car was the Cadillac and over the years he had owned several.
Bob is survived by his children, Craig Taylor of Norwich, Jody Cashman and her husband Edward of Oxford, Tonya Hitchcock of Mechanicsville and Todd Taylor of South New Berlin; his sister Hilda Wells; and his grandchildren Sierra, Cassie, Nathan, Olivia and Damon all of Norwich and Merissa, Damion, Krista and Mekenzie all of Oxford; and a great grandchild Isaiah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his wife Cleo, Bob was predeceased by his brothers Curtis and Alan Taylor.
Funeral services for Bob will be held at noon Saturday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, pastor of the Earlville Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
