NORWICH – Donald Harold Alford, 76, of Norwich and a resident of Wayne County for much of his life, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 18, 2011, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Don was born in Marion, the son of Harold and Martha Alford in April of 1935. He attended school in Sodus and spent many years in Wayne County. While living in Wayne County, he was employed by Duffy-Motts Cannery. Don had also lived in Asheboro, N.C. where he worked for the Black and Decker Co. He came to the Chenango County area in 1992 to be live with his family. In 1986, Don married Ella Guinup.
Don is survived by his children, Glenna (Richard) Downey of Norwich, Christine Strong of N.C., Maxine (Lester) Forbes of Randleman, N.C., Valencia (Charles) Barron of Fleming, and Dorothy (Richard) Cox of Greensboro, N.C. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces sand nephews also survive.
Don was predeceased by his wife Ella, his children Mary Ann Coons, Janet Peacock, Paul and Charles Coon, his sister Eloise and his brothers Clifford and Penny.
Memorial services for Don were held at the home of his granddaughter Rebecca Meek on Monday, Nov. 21, 2011.
Arrangements were by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
