Alice Van Wagner


SHERBURNE – Alice Van Wagner passed away on Dec. 16, 2011 at the age of 84, surrounded by her family.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1927 to the parents of Roby and Joseph Satterlee in Otselic, and married Jay Van Wagner on May 20, 1944. He passed away on Dec. 14, 2004 after 60 years of marriage. She also was predeceased by her sister Stella and grandson Ted.
Alice is survived by two sisters, Vivian Hull of Sherburne and Suzanna and Bob Austin of Murray, Kentucky; three sons, Daniel and Rosalyn Van Wagner of La Belle, Florida, Ed Van Wagner of Craryville, Fred and Edith Van Wagner of Sherburne; two daughters, Alice (Amy) and Danny Scott of Gilbert, Arizona, and Lois Van Wagner of Norwich. She was blessed with 24 grand, 33 great, and 7 great, great, grandchildren as well as countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Alice shared the workload of dairy farming and maple syrup production while raising her family and was famous for her gardens, especially for iris. People came from around the state to see her June blooms which she shared with many. She was a member of Home Bureau and the Chenango Craftsmen where she retailed her hand stitched Barbie Doll clothes and other crafts. She was a member of the Village Baptist Church where she was the Sunday School Superintendent and most recently, a member of the Faith Baptist Tabernacle. She was a loving and well loved woman who will be missed and cherished by all.
Calling hours will be 10-12, with a service at noon on Tuesday at Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home in Sherburne, with internment at the West Hill Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to her church or a charity of choice.
