SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Virginia Rose Thomsen, 90, of South New Berlin went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 in the Chase Memorial Nursing Home of New Berlin, where she has made her home for the past 2 1/2 years.
Virginia was born in South New Berlin on the family farm on Great Brook Road the daughter of Hubert and Gladys Wightman Daniels in April of 1921. She grew up in the South New Berlin area and was a graduate of the South New Berlin school. Deciding to further her education, Virginia attended Beautician School in Binghamton where she earned her beauticians license and opened her shop at the home of Mrs. Bagg. On April 27, 1941 in the Rhinebeck Reformed Church, the oldest church still functioning in America, she married Arnold Thomsen who survives. Following her marriage Virginia chose to raise her family and practice her profession on the side.
In 1969 she and her husband moved to Florida where they shared many happy years returning to New York in 2005 where they continued to make their home. A woman whose life centered around family, church and community, Virginia was always deeply involved in the church community and its programs where ever she made her home. Since making her home at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home she won the hearts of the staff and residents.
Virginia is survived by her husband Arnold, a resident of the Chase Memorial Nursing Home; her children Edward Thomsen and wife Kay, Philip Thomsen and wife Karen all of South New Berlin, Anne Manley and her husband Rev. Dr. Don Manley of Oxford, Fla. and her brother Larry Daniels and wife Madeline of Columbus. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Lorena Robertson and husband Jeff, Eva Thomsen and husband Jeff Johnson, Natalie Law and husband John, Brian Thomsen and wife Julie, Greg Thomsen and wife Pam, Joe Thomsen, Christie Underhill and husband Rich, Randy Manley and wife Louise and Dana Manley and wife Michelle, 23 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Virginia was predeceased by an infant son David.
A funeral service for Virginia will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Holmesville Baptist Church. The Rev. Romeyn Kipp, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery of South New Berlin.
Friends may call at the Holmesville Baptist Church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11.
