NORWICH – Roland Jay Cole, 69, formerly from Norwich, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina.
Roland was born in Norwich, the son of Claude and Lucille Bates Cole, on April 2, 1942. He grew up in Norwich and was a 1960 graduate of the Norwich High School. While in school Roland enjoyed playing baseball.
After graduation, Roland worked for the Norwich Shoe Factory. He also worked at the Norwich Pharmacy and for the City of Norwich.
Roland loved to hunt and fish, and his children have fond memories of helping him catch minnows to fish with. Roland also enjoyed camping, boating and playing cards with friends.
Roland is survived by his sister Ann (Stanley) DePew of Norwich; his son Scott Cole of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; his five daughters Brenda Davis of Oxford, Tammy Brazee of Sherburne, Dawn (David) Wenzel also of Sherburne, Michelle Cole of Norwich and Renee (Brad) Branagan of South Otselic. Also surviving are his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Roland was predeceased by his parents, Claude and Lucille.
As per his request, Roland will be cremated in North Carolina. A celebration of his life will be held in the summer at Plymouth Reservoir, one of Roland’s favorite fishing spots.
