BURLINGTON FLATS – Alton A. Mayne, 94, Jacobs Road, Burlington Flats, passed away at the family home on Tuesday, Dec, 20, 2011, with Pauline, his wife of 71 years at his side.
He was born in the Town of Burlington on Nov. 15, 1917, the son of Adelbert and Lena (Benjamin) Mayne. Alton attended public school in Burlington Flats, and graduated from the Edmeston High School in 1935.
Alton was united in marriage to Pauline McIntyre on July 19, 1940 in New Berlin, with the Rev. Truax officiating.
His lifetime career was dairy farming, working with his late father, and then his son Lewis joined him, and they operated the dairy farm until his retirement in 2006.
Alton was a man with a gentle spirit, who loved his family and agriculture.
He is survived by his wife: Pauline; daughter and son-in-law: Joyce and Charles (John) Johnson, Burlington Flats; son: Lewis Mayne, Burlington Flats and his companion, Josephine Colburn, West Burlington; and four grandchildren: Patricia and Kenneth Fung, Stoneham, Massachusetts; Kathleen and Clinton Goodman, Spencerport; Christine and James McConnaughey, Balmorata, Texas; Jonathan and Christina Johnson, Scottsvile; and nine great-grandchildren.
Calling hours at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston on Friday from noon to 2 p.m., with the funeral service at two o’clock, with the Rev. Stephen L. Reese, Senior Pastor of the Columbus Community Church, and the Rev. Jay Henderson, Pastor of the Burlington Flats Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be made in the South Brookfield Cemetery.
