Armond Menard


OXFORD – Armond J. Menard, 81, of Oxford and Bradenton, Fla., passed away on Dec. 21, 2011 at Doctor’s Hospital, Sarasota, Fla.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1930 in Johnson City, a son of the late Joseph and Elsie (Dominic) Menard.
He survived by his wife, Helena (Barriere) Menard of Oxford; his children, Diane and Gary Smith of Norwich, Janet and David Hicks of Pittsburgh, Ronald and Tammy Menard of Oxford, Kevin and Kim Menard, Keith and Sue Menard, Dale and Shirley Menard all of Oxford, and Daniel and Corrine Menard of Guilford; his siblings, Debbie and Bill Smith of Newark Valley and Sylvia Laskowski of Endicott; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fabio and Rita Boyer of Norwich. He is also survived by 40 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandson, K.J. Menard, his brother, Joseph Menard, his brother David Menard and his wife, Toni and daughter Ashley and his sister, Loretta Tripp.
Armond was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central School. At a young age he started working in a local garage, eventually starting his own business, Menard’s Garage in 1962 on Wackford Road in Oxford. He loved cars and collected many Imperials and Crosley’s as well as a vast collection of model cars and trucks. He was a very active member of the Rolling Antiquer’s Old Car Club in Norwich and worked many years at the annual car show. He was a former member and a supporter of the Oxford Fire Department, providing many cars for their drills. He was a cook at the WRC Home for 21 years. He was a member of the Oxford Men’s Coffee Club. A devoted family man, he loved all of the family get-togethers and picnics. He especially loved to ride the tractor and mow the yard. He was and avid card player and enjoyed bowling and dancing. He and Helena enjoyed camping and going to Florida in the winter.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Church, State St., Oxford. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Oxford.
