Madeline Krizan


BINGHAMTON – Madeline Elizabeth Krizan, 90, of Binghamton and a former resident of the Sherburne and Norwich area, passed away early Saturday morning, Feb., 25, 2012.
Madeline was born in Queens on Feb. 15, 1922, the daughter of James B. and Mary Elizabeth VanLeeuwen Collins. She grew up in Woodside, Queens where on July 16, 1949 she married Joseph Martin Krizan, who passed away Dec. 31, 1978. She and her husband first came upstate in 1956 where they made their home in Sherburne. In 1966 they relocated to Millwood, where she remained until returning to the Norwich area in 1984. She was employed for many years as a secretary for Maryknoll Brothers in Ossining.
Madeline is survived by her children, Bruce Krizan and his wife Carol of Binghamton, Brock Krizan and his wife Karen of Corvallis, OR and Leslie Salerno and her husband Steve of Loveland, OH, her stepson-in-law Arnold Whisnant of Johnson City, TN and stepdaughter Audrey Baker and her husband of North Carolina. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Dr. Kate Hoffman and her husband Andrew of San Francisco, CA, Jill Chaffee and husband Mike of Seattle, WA, Claire Krizan of Corvallis, OR, Michael Salerno and wife Ashley of Cincinnati, OH, Andrew Salerno of Cincinnati OH and Sarah Krizan of Binghamton, her great grandson, Cooper Chaffee, her step grandson Greg Whisnant and his wife Valerie of KY and step great grandson Zak Whisnant. Besides her husband Joseph, Madeline was predeceased by her brother James Albert Collins and step-daughter Barbara Whisnant.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Pratt Newton and Elizabeth Church Manor for the compassionate and loving care they provided our mother over the past several years.
A celebration of Madeline’s life will be held in the spring at a time to be announced from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
