NORWICH – William L. (Bill) Wightman Sr., 71, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 2012.
Bill was born in Norwich on April 9, 1940 the son of W.Lyle and Evelyn White Wightman and was a graduate of the South New Berlin school. He had worked for the Tracy Baking Co. until they closed and then became employed by Victory Markets. In the early 1980s he moved to Delaware and became employed with Bill Stewart Construction. Bill came back to the Norwich area in 2006 and worked a period of time for the Country Max Store.
Bill is survived by his son William L. (Billy) Wightman Jr. and his wife Diane of Clinton; his grandchildren Chandler, Alec and Brennen (Little Bill) Wightman, his sisters; Yvonne (Ron) Hannon of Inverness, Fla., Linda (Lee) Martin of New Berlin, Brenda (Paul) Wheeler of Norwich and Candy Moyer of Arizona; his brothers Walt (Sue) Wightman of Norwich, Mike (Rhonda) Wightman of Norwich and Luke (Carla) Wightman of Hutchinson, Kansas. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Bill was predeceased by his sister Pat Ladner and his brothers Jim and Bob Wightman.
Graveside services for Bill will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Barry Davis, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are with the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
