MT UPTON – Ruth M. Kozak, 87, of 741 County Hwy 1, Mt. Upton, passed away quietly in the Cooperstown Bassett Hospital on Friday, March 16, 2012. Ruth was in the loving company of her three children - Michael and Thomas Kozak of Mt Upton; Anna Kozak and her husband Rick Fuller of Bridgman, MI - and her dear friend, Ed Ziobro, of Rockdale.
Ruth was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Brooklyn, of parents Michael and Mary Vitkauskas. She was predeceased by one brother, Albert. Ruth grew up in Brooklyn where she met Michael Kozak and moved to a farm between Sidney and Rockdale in 1961. Ruth lost her husband, Michael, in a farming accident and elected to stay on the farm to raise her three young children. Michael and Tom Kozak continue to live on the Kozak farm on County Road 1. Additional family members saddened by her loss are Mary Ann Mission and family of Inverness, FL; the Inglot and Latosinski families of Poland; Lilla Acord and family of England; and Alice Huntington of Havertown, PA.
Ruth was a home maker, and for many years worked at Bendix in Sidney. Ruth lived strong in the faith of our Lord and with her many friendships within the Sacred Heart Church, Sidney. Ruth leaves a loving vacancy in the in the hearts of her family and friends, and with the community she served for so many years.
Visitation will be held at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 15 Liberty Street, Sidney at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Ruth will be laid to rest in St John’s Cemetery in NYC on Thursday.
The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sidney, or the Mt. Upton Volunteer Fire Dept. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
