SHERBURNE – Levo G. Kocher, 80, of Sherburne passed away Saturday morning, May 12, 2012 at his home in Sherburne.
Levo was born on June 10, 1931 in Shavertown, Pa., the son of Eckley and Bertha Rosengrant Kocher. He grew up in the Kingston, Pa. area and was a 1949 graduate of the Kingston High School. In 1953 he entered the United States Army, serving his country in the Military Police until his honorable discharge in 1955. While serving his country Levo was the recipient of several medals including the National Defense Medal, the UN Service Medal, the good Conduct Medal and the Korean Service Medal.
While living in Pennsylvania Levo worked as a farmer and was employed by the Hayfield Farms in Lehman, Pa. He had also worked in a local machine shop.
Levo has been a resident of this area since 2007 and on July 28, 2007, he married Margery Townsend, who survives. He was a man with a great sense of humor and always had a ready smile, which, in his last days got him through a difficult time. He enjoyed a good game of cards, his model trains and was a true NY Mets fan. He also enjoyed spending time on his computer and was a member of the Sherburne American Legion Post # 876 and the Sherburne Lions Club.
Levo is survived by his wife Margery of Sherburne, his children Jeffrey Kocher and Lori Crawford both of Florida, Eric Kocher of Pennsylvania, his step-daughter Mabel of Holmesville and step-sons Michael White of Portland, Ore., David White of Waldorf, Md. and Paul White of Sherburne. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a very dear friend, Carlton Dymond of Pennsylvania.
Levo was predeceased by his wives Georgette and Nella along with several brothers and sisters.
Graveside services for Levo will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from the Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Brian Conover, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. There will be no calling hours.
