NORWICH – John L. Homovich, 86, of Norwich, passed away Saturday morning, May 12, 2012, at his home.
John was born in Corbett on June 25, 1925 the son of George and Helen Humn Homovich Sr. He spent his early years in the Downsville area where he attended the local school. John later moved to the Guilford area and on June 9, 1945 married Thelma Shapley, who passed away May 3, 2010. In his early working years he worked as a farmer on his own farm in South Oxford and was also a stone cutter and mason. John was best known as a truck driver for over 30 years, working first for Maurice Slater, Cossitt Motor Freight, Herman Forwarding and Webb & Sons.
John is survived by his children: James (Ina) Homovich of Norwich, Robert (Patricia) Homovich of Greenwood, S.C., Sheila (William) Bagnall of Sherburne, Sharon (Paul) Cunningham of Smyrna, Ronald Homovich of North Norwich and Terri (James) Weaver of South New Berlin; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Sally Wynkoop of New York City and Marge Foster of Brewster, N.J., along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Thelma, John was predeceased by his sisters Helen and Mary and brothers George Jr. and Alex Homovich.
Private services for John will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Sylvan Lawn Cemetery of Greene.
