NORWICH – Carol E. Wightman, a lifetime resident of Norwich passed away on May 23, 2012 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital Senior living Center after a courageous struggle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 24, 1937 to Henry and Elizabeth Wightman of Norwich.
Carol attended Norwich schools and graduated with the class of 1955. She spent the greater part of her life as a bank teller in Norwich, beginning her career at the Chenango County National Bank & Trust Co. of Norwich (also known as ‘The Upper Bank’) and retiring from GHS Federal Credit Union.
Carol lived her life to the fullest with a sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around her. She was always ready with a joke to make you laugh. She enjoyed traveling all over the country. She was a long time Elvis fan and had visited Graceland many times. Carol looked forward to her weekly trips to the Turning Stone with her friend Marge. Of all her enjoyments in life, she especially loved spending time with her nieces and nephews; from caring for them in their childhood to frequenting their school events and playing cards and board games in their adult lives. She loved family gatherings when all her loved ones were gathered together.
Carol will be fondly remembered by her sister Geraldine Haynes (John Bargher) and her brother Robert (Karen) Wightman. She will also be forever remembered by her nieces and nephews Kenneth (Jen) Haynes, Dennis (Bonnie) Haynes, Brett Wightman (Michele Yankowski), Brenda (Steve) Schabel, Alison (Calvin) Locke and Sarah Wightman. Carol is also survived by several uncles, cousins, grandnieces and grand nephews.
Carol was predeceased by her parents Henry and Elizabeth Wightman and her brother-in-law Kenneth Haynes Sr.
Per Carol’s request there will be no calling hours. A private burial will take place at a later date at Godfrey Cemetery of Guilford.
