NORWICH – Clyde Duane Valentine, 86, of Norwich, passed away Friday morning, June 8, 2012 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Duane was born in Lanesboro, Pa. in February of 1926, the son of Leslie and Myra Brown Valentine. At the early age of two, he moved with his family to the Cortland-Chenango County area where he made his home for many years. For most of his adult life, Duane had been a farmer. He operated a farm in the Town of Lapeer in Cortland County and had also worked in the Norwich area for the Zuber farms. A talented handyman, he would buy apartments to fix up for resale.
On Feb. 14, 2002, he married Beverly Phoenix, who survives. Besides his wife Beverly of Norwich, he is survived by his children: Karon (Richard) Lightner of Pa., Sharon (Timothy) Cree of Forest, V. and Gary (Sally) Valentine of Cortland. Also surviving are 12 step-children, 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
Duane was predeceased by his first wife, Viola, his second wife Pauline, his sisters Barb and Kathleen and his brothers Duward, Carlton and Kenneth.
Funeral services for Duane will be held on Monday evening at 6 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Romeyn Kipp, pastor of the Holmesville Baptist Church will officiate. Committal services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Parker St. Cemetery, Town of Lapeer.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 4-6 p.m.
