McDONOUGH – Janet C. DeForest of McDonough passed away on Jan. 3, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton following a brief illness. 
She was born on Sept. 14, 1945 in Oxford the daughter of Riley and Lenora (Hurlburt) Howe.  On June 29, 1963 in Calvary Episcopal Church, McDonough she married Harvey DeForest, who survives.
Besides her husband, Harvey, she is survived by her father Riley Howe; her children, James and Cindy DeForest and son Nicholas, Christine and Tony Barnhart and children Lance and Courtney, and Heather DeForest all of McDonough; her sister and brother in law, Joanne and Bruce Peterson of German; her brother and sister in law, George and Anna Howe of West Colesville.  She is also survived by her brother in law and sisters in law, Gary and Shirley DeForest of Pharsalia and Carol DeForest of Verona. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Janet graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School in 1963.  She was “Mama” and “Gramma” to many children.  She loved going to garage sales.  She enjoyed gardening.  She had worked at Crescent Corset Co., Gilbert Machine & Tool and Oxford Academy & Central School.  She was a Sunday school teacher for several years at Calvary Episcopal Church, McDonough.
Private funeral services will be held on Saturday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St, Oxford with the Rev. Michael Tan Creti, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Oxford officiating.  Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McDonough.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Friday from 6-9 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Lourdes Breast Care Center, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, NY 13901.
