Alberta Gohl


NORTH NORWICH – Alberta H. Gohl, 92, recently of North Norwich and former long-time resident of Coventryville, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 4, 2007, in the Wilson Regional Medical Center of Johnson City.
Born in North Norwich on March 28, 1914, Alberta was the daughter of Floyd and Bessie (Ellis) Hodge. At the age of 13, she left home to get her education in the Whitney Point schools, from which she graduated in 1932. She furthered her education in Binghamton by attending business school. On April 13, 1933, in Orson, Pa., Alberta married Warren F. Gohl, and they moved to Coventryville in 1942, where she made her home until she moved to North Norwich in 2000. A hard worker all of her life, she worked during World War II at the former Scintilla of Sidney, and subsequently was employed for 42 years by the American Plastic Co. of Bainbridge, from which she retired in 1977 as a small parts inspector.
Alberta was very creative and a talented seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and was very good at making cabbage patch dolls. She also had wallpapered many homes in the area where she lived. She enjoyed traveling, and had taken trips to Alaska and Hawaii.
Alberta is survived by her children: George Gohl and wife Kathy of Sidney, Theodore Gohl of Afton, Howard Gohl and wife MaryJane of Norwich, F. Dennis Gohl and wife Linda of Apalachin, Sharon Muserallo and husband Butch of Norwich, and Barbara Rocks and husband William of North Norwich; 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Beatrice Hohn and Emaline (Ellen) Cobb, both of Whitney Point, along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Warren, who passed away April 16, 1993, Alberta was predeceased by her sisters, Lena Ryan, Nina Henderson, and Lillian Mitchell; and her brothers. Franklin, David, Eugene, and James Hodge.
Memorial services for Alberta will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the United Church of Christ of Coventryville. The Rev. George Geres, pastor of the New Hope Congregational Church of Afton, will officiate.
Interment will be private in the Glenwood Cemetery of Afton.
Family and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
