Richard Scheer
NORWICH – Richard J. Scheer, 65, long-time resident of the Norwich area, passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, May 27, 2006, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 25, 1940, in Wallkill, Richard was the son of Albert and Iva (Eggleton) Scheer. Living on the Sheer-Lawton Road from the age of five, Richard grew up in the Norwich area and was a 1959 graduate of the Norwich High School. On Aug. 4, 1962, he married Diane K. Goodrich.
Richard began his employment with GLA in Norwich and continued with the company and it’s successors, B. F. Goodrich, Hercules, Simmonds Free., Unison, and, finally, G.E., retiring on May 1, 2006, after 45 years of service.
Throughout his life, Richard loved to travel and camp, enjoying many outings with his family and friends. He also enjoyed his hunting in the local areas of Chenango County.
Richard is survived by his wife, Diane Scheer of Norwich; his children and their spouses: Deborah Scheer of Windsor; Theresa Cook and husband Joe, Timothy Scheer and wife Audra, and Christopher Scheer and wife MaryAnn, all of Norwich; his grandchildren: Ashleigh and Jennifer Rahn, Joshua Enyart, Nathan and Kai Scheer, Kayla, Courtney and Benjamin Scheer, and Taylor, Storm and Dylan Cook, along with his great granddaughter, Lillie Shea. Also surviving are his brother, Albert Scheer and wife Mariene of Oneonta; his sisters: Janice Tuskewicz of Sun City, Calif., Ruth Markiewicz and husband Mark of Earlville, Carol Nisbet of DeRuyter, and Georgiana Leahy and husband Jack of Virginia; his aunts and uncles: Gerald and Dorothy Scheer of Palmyra, Ruth Mentz of Texas, and Virginia Scheer of Canajoharie. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Richard will be held on Thursday, June 1, at 1 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford, Pastor of the Beaver Meadow Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.
