Karl Marvin


PITCHER – Karl H. Marvin, 76, of Pitcher, passed away on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.
Born in Pitcher on Aug. 12, 1936, Karl was a son of the late Walter and Dorothy Myers Marvin. A lifelong resident of the area, he formerly served as the Town of Pitcher Road Superintendent. Throughout his lifetime he worked at several jobs in the Cortland area including working at Durkee’s in Cortland, McGraw Box Company, and various jobs at Agway, including being a millwright before becoming an independent millwright with Ken Flint. He also owned and operated the Cincinnatus Auto Body shop and was a truck driver for Alnye Trucking. Karl was an avid classic car enthusiast and enjoyed playing country and western music on his harmonica.
He is survived by his children, Kenneth Allen Marvin of Virginia, Debora Marvin Creeden Wendel of Ithaca, John (Karla) Parker of Penfield, Stacy (William) Rogers of McGraw, Debra (Bill) VanAtta of McGraw, and Karl (Kathie) Parker of N. Syracuse. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth E. (Carolyn) Marvin, Sr. of McDonough and Harold (Carol) Marvin, Sr. of Cincinnatus; and his sisters, Amelia (Leon) Stovall of Arizona, Martha (Neal) Hines of Cincinnatus, and Inez (Martin) Macomber of Lee, FL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sara Marvin, on Jan. 25, 1999.
Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, at 11 a.m. Friday with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Pitcher Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
