Harold Kornstein


NORWICH – Harold Kornstein, 99, formerly of Delray Beach, Florida and Brooklyn, passed away Friday night, Aug. 31, 2012 in the Residential Health Care Facility of UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich, where he had lived since April 2009.
Born on October 7, 1912 in New York City, Harold’s last employment was as a bookkeeper and office manager for J. Feller & Son, brokers and distributors of produce at New York City’s famed Washington Market and later at the Hunts Point Terminal Market. He retired in 1978 and moved to Florida until 2005 when he and his wife moved to Norwich to live near their son. Although a private person, Harold had great love for his wife and children and especially for his grandchildren. He loved to read the New Yorker, favoring non-fiction, the world of politics, science and the performing arts. He stressed the importance of physical activity and devoted hours of his life to daily, strenuous exercise.
Harold is survived by his son, Mitchell Gary (Jan Wentworth) of South Otselic; his son-in-law, Dr. Barry Komisaruk of Maplewood, NJ; grandsons Dr. Adam Komisaruk (Stacey Elza) of Morgantown, WV, and Dr. Kevin Komisaruk (Jeffrey Steele) of Toronto, Canada; a great-granddaughter, Josephine Elza Komisaruk of Morgantown, WV; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carolyn Rita Komisaruk, in 1982; by his wife of 67 years, Sarah, in 2008; two sisters, Rae Gerson, and Estelle Davis; and three nieces, Marilyn Katz, Sandra Rosenberg and Lydia Levy.
A family graveside service will be held on Tuesday afternoon, followed by burial in the North Pitcher Cemetery, North Pitcher. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are entrusted to the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich.
