HARRY ASHCRAFT
SOUTH PLYMOUTH – Harry C. Ashcraft, “Uncle Putt,” 84, of South Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly at his home.
Born in Brisben on Feb. 9, 1922, Harry was the son of William A. and Minerva (Felt) Ashcraft, Sr. He grew up in South Plymouth and attended school in Norwich, Stewart’s Comers, and South Plymouth. Except for trips to California and Florida, Harry essentially lived for 82 of his years on the family farm in South Plymouth, which he began operating on his own in 1948. On May 30, 1942, in Erieville, Harry married Frieda M. Waggoner, who would predecease him on Dec. 1, 1998.
Harry is survived by his sister, Flora Palmer of Sherburne, and his brother, George S. Ashcraft and wife Ileana of South Plymouth. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: William Ashcraft III and fiancee Patty Murray of South Plymouth, Rebecca Sabin of North Norwich, Aleisa Southern of North Carolina, Ted Martin of North Carolina, Rose Maricle and husband LeRoy of South Plymouth, and Leslie Ashcraft and wife Janine of Morrisville. Harry was also predeceased by his brother, William Ashcraft, Jr., and his nephew Glen Ashcraft.
Funeral services for Harry will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will be in the South Plymouth Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wed. from 6 to 8 p.m.
