NORWICH – Eleanor Anne Riley (nee Browning), 67, a thirty-year resident of Orange City, Florida, passed Sept. 8, 2012, at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Eleanor (Ellie) was born in Oneida on July 23, 1945, the daughter of John and Nancy Browning (nee Alderman). She attended school in the Hamilton school district and was a 1962 graduate of Hamilton High School. On Aug. 29, 1965 she married Edward C. Riley in a small ceremony in Poolville. Ellie was a prodigious worker and had a vast and varied working career that spanned a period of 50 years.
Ellie thoroughly enjoyed her role as grandmother to 23 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was very content and derived much pleasure from watching all of her television programs on the Food Network, TLC and Animal Planet. Ellie could always be found sitting on her carport with her ever present cup of coffee talking with friends and family both near and far. Lastly, she was never far from her canine friends Jack and Beagie.
Ellie is survived by her husband of 47 years Edward of Orange City, Fla.; her six children Paul and his wife Jani and their three children McKenna, Nathaniel and Keegan Riley of Charlottesville, Virginia; Jeffrey and his wife Gloria and their seven children Patrick, Robert and Elizabeth Wisor, Brittany Herring, Allison, Erin and Shannon Riley of Marietta, Georgia; Gregory and his former spouse Melissa and their four children Kieran, Reaghan, Quillan and Gannon Riley of Kingston; Julie Gavaletz (nee Riley) and her husband Michael and their children Robert and Heather Arnold and Ryan and Joseph Gavaletz of Deltona, Florida; Judy McNew (nee Riley) and her fiance Michael Rose and Judy’s children Amanda Ray and Drake McNew of Lockport; Jennifer Riley and her husband Omar Ramnauth and their children Maison and Jordan Ramnauth her former spouse Enrique Martinez and their daughter Aubrey Martinez. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Holcomb and husband Robert of Hamilton, her brother John Browning and his wife Christine of Hamilton, sister Nancy Taranto of Grants, N.M. and brother Robert Browning and his wife Ronna of Hubbardsville, sister in-law Judy Browning of Radcliffe, Kentucky and brother in-law Sam Giordano of Woodstock, Ga. In addition she is survived by one great grandchild Brendan Wisor of Jacksonville, Fla. as well as 39 nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nancy Browning, brother, Burdette William Browning, sister, Nora Giordano and nephews Scott and Sam Giordano.
Funeral services for Ellie will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 No. Broad St., Norwich. The Rev. Dennis McKenna, pastor of the Norwich Assembly of God Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the North Norwich Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 p.m.
