Chester Silvernail
GREENE – A much loved husband, father, son, brother and friend, Chester V. Silvernail, 76, of Greene, passed away on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, with his wife by his side.
He was born June 26, 1936 in Plymouth, and resided in Greene for the past 55 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Vyral and Winifred Silvernail; brother, Ira; and daughter, Gail Silvernail.
Chet is survived by his wife of 42 years, Adrienne Silvernail; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Frank Dell’Aira of Wading River, New York and their daughter, Ashley; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Shannon Simpson of Amityville, Pennsylvania and their children, Joseph and Jenna Walton; daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Garry Knudson of Exton, Pennsylvania and their children, Scott and Elizabeth; brother, Kenneth Silvernail of Norwich; sister, Mary Blackman of Plymouth; sister, Esta Polanco and husband, Sergio of Norwich; his brother-in-law, Terry Matteson and wife, Pam of East Sandwich, Massachusetts; and sister-in-law, Kathy Schneiderman of Staunton, Virginia. Chet was much loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Korea, then drove a moving van across the country. He was an eighteen-wheel trucker for many years for Mobil Oil and ended his career there in management. Chet farmed the land he called home for 42 years – as long as God gave him the strength. He was a farmer, a logger, a carpenter, a hunter, a mechanic and a horseman, but he was always the most at home, behind the wheel of a tractor, pick-up truck, or a big rig. He volunteered his services for his church, Red Cross and the local food pantry as well as being available to help family and friends. In spite of health issues the last few years, he cherished joyous family times, his Florida home and new friends. He deeply treasured the little corner of God’s creation that he called home. Every sunrise, tree, hill, deer, and sunset was to him a glimpse of heaven.
