Stanley Cooper
GREENE – Stanley L. Cooper Sr., 82, of Greene, went peacefully to be with his Lord on Sept. 19, 2012, at his home, while surrounded by his family.
Stan was born in Binghamton on July 15, 1930, a son of the late Richard and Rita Arrend Cooper. A longtime resident of the area, he was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Raymond Corporation after 46 years of dedicated service. In his spare time he enjoyed raising beef cattle and gardening. Most important to Stan was the love he had for his family and especially his great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife and nurse of 61 years, June Cooper, Greene; children, Stanley (Melissa) Cooper, Jr. of Greene, Debbie (Ron) Howard, Greene; grandchildren, Laura Winans, Billie Jo Cooper-Furman, Wendy (Brian) Gollogly, Shawn Ellsworth, Lisa Cooper, Tamra Cooper; great-grandchildren, Brittany Winans and Rylee Gollogly; daughter-in-law, Misty Cooper, Greene; brother, David Cooper, Charlotte, NC and sister-in-law, Ruth Cooper, Chenango Forks; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Larry Cooper in 2004 and his siblings, Harry, Marjorie, Carol, Dorothy, and Richard.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, with Reverend John Pooler officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greene Community Services, PO Box 388, Greene, NY 13778. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Ramanujan, Dr. Jamal and Dr. Matinez for the special care shown to Stan.
