PRESTON – Flora M. Warner, of Homer, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012.
She was born Nov. 3, 1924 in Preston, the daughter of Harold and Marian (Law) Money. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Preston and then went on to graduate from Norwich High School at age 15. On Feb. 15, 1942 she married Richard R. Warner. They had a farm in Preston until 1952 when they moved to Cortland County. She worked at Miller Wholesale Hardware from 1957 to 1962, USDA Farmer’s Home Administration from 1962 to 1969, and Beach Affiliates from 1969 to 1994.
Flora was the devoted matriarch of her large extended family and enjoyed baking their favorite homemade pies, strawberry shortcake, and cookies. “Nana” always made sure each new baby in the family had a blanket crocheted lovingly by her hands. She loved to play Scrabble and cards. She spent many hours at the local senior centers playing pitch and enjoyed countless games of Scrabble with her daughters and grandchildren, most of which she won.
She is survived by her three children, Sherry (Robert) Stidfole of Fayetteville, TN, Sharon (James) Wainman of Homer, and Richard H. (Avis) Warner of Homer; a brother Aceil (Wilma) Money of Sanford, NC; a sister Mariba Wright of Cortland, NY; two sisters-in-law, nine grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Glenn and Norman; her husband, Richard (2003); a granddaughter, Wendy Stidfole McCourt; and a great grandson, Hagen Bosch.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1:30 p.m. in the Russell Fellowship Room at the Homer Congregational Church, 28 South Main St. Homer. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery Norwich.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to David Harum Senior Center, 31 North Main Street Homer, NY 13077.
